I began by thinking that the bees were just Chris'. Thinking that he would tend them and feed them and compete his hive checks on his own.
It took very little time for the bees to consume my mind as well. Is it too windy? Should we strap them down? I wonder what they are doing? Should I go out and get some pictures while the sun is shining? I find myself staring at the pictures I've taken and wanting to learn, not just about the bees but about flowers, plants, and other things that help the bees thrive as well.
What this experience has really taught me is how to work with my husband as a team. We have always had mutual goals. We want the same things out of life. I can't imagine us lasting this long if we didn't. But having this physical manifestation of those goals has changed how exactly we attack them. I help with the bees each weekend. I am always going out to the hives during the day as a break from my job to snap a few pictures, water the garden or just enjoy the flurry of activity.
Chris, in turn, is not only the face of this operation, but is the teacher and coordinator. There are few people I could see myself doing a project like this with. In truth, my dream has always been to be a business owner with my husband. Those who have known me a while know I had sort of resigned myself to that not being a possibility. With this experiment, I am learning that teamwork really does make the dream work and my small business is not only possible, but something that we are working on now!!
Thanks for listening to me buzz!
