I saw my nephews this past week. Always a pleasure! They are eight, six, three and three weeks and I'm excited to share my enthusiasm for bees with them. As I was showing one of them pictures of the hives, our garden, and the bees coming and going he asked, "Uncle Chris....WHY do you keep bees?"

We have bees... so now what?

As I watch Chris manage the hives, I find myself wondering what, besides honey, the bees will yield us. I have found myself researching things like lip balm, hand balm and cream, candles. As I've researched, what I have found is there is little to do with bees that can't be used for something.

I walk a fine line when it comes to getting stung by bees. I've been a proponent of the medicinal benefits (medicinal uses for rheumatoid arthritis, MS, and nerve pain), but I understand the general fear associated with bee stings.
